Jimmy is a software engineer with a background in sales and a passion for building scalable and efficient systems. Before transitioning into engineering, he spent five years in sales, where he honed his ability to understand customer needs and drive business growth. He later pivoted to software development, working across the full stack with a focus on backend development, databases, and API design. He enjoys solving complex technical challenges and leveraging AI to enhance operations. Outside of work, he is an avid cyclist, coffee enthusiast, and enjoys reading thriller novels.
One of my favorite books is Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. It blends science, problem-solving, and great storytelling in a way that keeps me hooked.
One of my first sales managers taught me the importance of persistence and relationship-building, skills that have shaped my approach to both sales and software development. Later, a mentor in engineering helped me transition from sales by encouraging structured learning and breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps. Both experiences reinforced the value of mentorship and continuous growth.
I resonate most with “lifelong learning / stay curious.” Coming from a non-traditional engineering background, my career has been built on constantly learning new skills and adapting. Whether it’s picking up a new programming language, refining system design, or diving into AI applications, I believe curiosity is key to growth.
I want Curious Cardinals to create a space where mentorship bridges knowledge gaps and unlocks opportunities for students. Whether it’s connecting neurodivergent learners with mentors who understand them or helping students explore non-traditional career paths, I hope we continue to make education more accessible and personalized.
