A bit about Ian...

Ian is an avid reader, thinker, and coffee lover. From a young age, he was always entranced by puzzles and games, determined to crack the code to solve any problem. This passion expanded to looking at the world's challenges - completing his Bachelor's degree at Rice University before joining Teach for America. He taught 6th grade mathematics for several years before transitioning to administration, founding a KIPP High School in Houston, Texas. His drive for furthering education innovation led him to gain a bicoastal perspective with an EdM from Harvard Graduate School of Education (Educational Neuroscience) and an MS from Stanford Graduate School of Education (Educational Data Science). He's now settled in Houston, Texas with his fiancee and their pup, Pearl. He still loves a (very competitive) board game night and will never turn down an opportunity to discuss the best strategy for his fantasy sports teams.

Tell us about a mentor or teacher who changed your life?

I had a history teacher in high school, David Hargreaves, who would always (and still does) go out of his way to make sure I felt valued beyond just in the classroom, especially at the age when it was so easy to feel lost. When I myself chose to go into teaching, he even flew across the Atlantic to visit my classroom in Texas! Having his guidance throughout my school years and beyond has shaped who I am as a person and encouraged me to pursue a career in education.
