PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Luke R. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Luke is a sophomore at Brown University pursuing a double concentration in Computer Science and Modern Culture & Media. Originally from Los Angeles, he graduated Cum Laude at Harvard-Westlake School, where he took on a wide range of studies and extracurricular activities. Completing his school’s five-year computer science track, he quickly developed a passion for coding, going on to designing websites, programming robotics competitions, and coding games in Unreal Engine. He has a passion for learning foreign languages, self-studying German and Italian at an intermediate level along with obtaining fluency in Spanish. He put these skills to use as Head Editor for his high school’s foreign language literary magazine, as well as serving as the Head Translator for a student-run foreign affairs publication, The Myriad. In addition, he spent his weekends working as a clinical volunteer at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, assisting both patients and nurses. At Brown, he has continued his passion for computer science both in and out of class, applying his programming knowledge to game development, especially in Unreal Engine. He has also become involved in the film world, working as a producer and location sound recordist on student films at Brown and taking cinema theory classes as part of the film production track for his studies in Modern Culture & Media. For fun, he loves watching classic movies, going on hikes, skateboarding, and playing guitar with his friends.
