PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Eliana S. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Eliana is a junior at Stanford University pursuing a major in Earth Systems with a focus on Human Environmental Systems. Eliana first began learning about environmental sciences in high school, when she spent half of her junior year at The Mountain School of Milton Academy—a small, semester based school in Vermont with an interdisciplinary curriculum centered around environmental science and sustainable agriculture. During her first year at Stanford, Eliana served as Vice President of the student organization Stanford Roots (Rooted Transformative Stewardship), and spent much of her free time planting, harvesting, and planning community events at the O’Donohue Family Stanford Educational Farm. In 2020, Eliana took a leave of absence from Stanford and spent the year pursuing a number of interests and opportunities. She conducted research for The Farmlink Project on pandemic-based food waste and food insecurity, worked as an Archivist for Earth Refuge, the first legal think tank devoted to climate migrants, and conducted an independent research project with the Stanford Existential Risks Initiative on the complex risks associated with proposed geoengineering solutions to the climate crisis. Recently, Eliana has been interested in exploring large-scale sustainable design and infrastructure, and spent the past summer studying architecture at Columbia GSAPP. In her free time, Eliana loves spending time outside with her dog Cooper, attempting to ID different tree species on hikes or walks around campus, and playing around with different artistic mediums. Eliana is fascinated by the role that art and creativity can play in creating more equitable, resilient and sustainable systems for the future, and loves both sharing her passions with and learning from Curious Cardinals!
