PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Audrey W. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Audrey paused her studies at Stanford University after founding Curious Cardinals, chasing her dreams to not only help K-12 students unlock their greatest potential, but also to provide college students with meaningful work. After teaching her first workshop on mass incarceration to high school students at the start of the pandemic, Audrey mobilized her most ambitious peers at Stanford and beyond to share topics they were passionate about to K-12 students. Since then, Audrey has spoken on CNN and in Forbes to share her vision to create a community of lifelong learners and doers. Curious Cardinals has now raised $6.8 million in seed funding led by Anthos Capital and Audacious Ventures. She was recognized in the 2022 Forbes 30 Under 30 Education and Youngest category

At Stanford, Audrey was a history major whose research on the history of sexual assault was published in the Stanford Historical Journal. Audrey’s passion for history is best summarized in Marcus Garvey’s famous quote: “a people without their history is like a tree without roots.” Passionate about immigration and criminal justice reform as well as gender equity, Audrey previously aspired to be the next RBG! Now Audrey takes that passion to Curious Cardinals - with aspirations to change the future of K-12 education to a model that champions individuality and instills confidence and inspiration in students from all backgrounds.

When Audrey is not working or speaking to members of the Curious Cardinals community, she can be found running while listening to podcasts, reading, cooking or at art museums with friends!

WHY THIS MATTERS:

Our mentorship sessions happen virtually over Zoom. It’s important to get a sense of how someone’s personality can come through on a video call. The best way to ensure your student is excited about learning is to have someone on the other side that they look forward to talking to.

MOM OF 5TH & 8TH GRADERS

We marvel at the fact that the best teachers our kids have ever had aren’t even teachers! Alec and Audrey have such an impressive mastery of their respective subjects. They create engaging, relevant and challenging coursework that accomplishes what we most want for our kids - a love of learning.

Curious Cardinals not only helped spark Bethany's passion for writing, but connected her to a college mentor who she could see herself in and look up to for inspiration. Every parent hopes that their kids can find role models who are not only highly ambitious and highly accomplished, but also have integrity and compassion too - and that's what Curious Cardinals has facilitated for my daughter. Her mentor helped her find her author's voice and put together a viable plan to launch her blog, all empowering her with more confidence in herself as an individual. She loved it so much that I signed my son up too!
